They are dedicated to providing a comfortable, caring environment for women, by women.
At your well woman exam, you can expect to have a pelvic exam, breast exam, and possibly a Pap test. Much of your exam depends on your age, your concerns, and your overall health and wellness.
Dr. Martin asks about your medical history, your family’s medical history, and more specifically about your gynecological health so she can get a clear picture of your overall wellness. Some questions you may want to be prepared to answer include:
Dr. Martin or one of her nurses may also ask about alcohol or drug use, if you smoke, any illnesses or infections you’ve had, or anything else that may affect your reproductive health.
The type of tests performed at your well woman exam depends on your age, overall health, and any existing health conditions. Dr. Martin and her team focus on individualized care and treatment for all women, so they determine what tests you may need at any particular time in your life.
If you’re over 21 and sexually active, Dr. Martin may recommend testing for sexually transmitted diseases, Pap tests to check for signs of cervical cancer and breast exams for breast cancer screening. Dr. Martin often recommends mammograms for women over 40 to monitor for breast cancer, as the risk increases with age.
If you’ve never had a well woman exam and you’re over 18, call for an appointment or schedule one online. The best way to treat a condition is to prevent it, and well woman exams can do just that.
